Laynna & Kyle’s wedding at Gardiner Museum

Modern and Minimalist Wedding at Gardiner Museum

Weddings at museums are a perfect way to introduce a modern style to your wedding day. The Gardiner Museum in Downtown Toronto offers a few different options for your wedding day. The venues top floor is a chic and modern space with glass windows that overlooks the skyline of Toronto. Laynna and Kyle celebrated their wedding day at the Gardner Museum and it was a perfect fit for this couple. The Gentle Planner team supported the couple to ensure their wedding day went smoothly and that they were able to relax and enjoy their time with their guest.

The wedding ceremony was held on the top floor of the Gardiner Museum where the restaurant space was transformed to a ceremony location. The best part of the room is the floor to ceiling windows which allows guests to have a view of the city of Toronto and lots of natural light. The venue also offers a bridal suit on the second floor with an easy to access washroom. However, the thing about modern spaces is they can feel cold. To balance this at the Gardiner Museum, the couple chose soft green chairs and added natural greenery to bring some warmth to the space. Their officiant Devon did a great job of sharing the couples story and it was followed by heartfelt vows. The couple then had an exit and went straight to the bridal suit where they got to spend some time with each other. The guest went downstairs to the main floor to enjoy cocktail hour where they had music playing and tasty pass around items by Food Dudes.

The couple and close family and friends went outside to have some photos taken and during that time, the vendor team then completely re-arranged the space upstairs. Tables are set, chairs moved, cutlery, florals so much is going on. The bride designed menus, place names, and thank you cards for each guest which we carefully placed on charger plates. Napkins were folded and the finishing touches made to the tables. Their florist was a standout. They used neutral tones, bold red colours and soft blue to bring the space to life. There was also tapered candles, floral arrangements full of moment and smaller candles which gave the tables colour, height, and depth. A soft grey runner was placed down the row of rectangle tables which tied the entire theme together.

As guests arrived they were shown to their tables and we displayed the canvas printed seating chart which was designed by the bride herself. There was a three course meal with a delicious salad, entree and dessert by Food Dudes. Guests acclaimed even the butter was the best they ever had! While guests were eating, the program continued with dances, cake cutting, and thoughtful toasts by their family.

At Gentle Planner, we think about what stood out to us from the events we plan or coordinate and there was a lot at this beautiful event. Here are a few things special about Laynna & Kyle’s wedding:

Disposable Camera- Each table had a disposable camera that guest could use throughout the night to take pictures. The couple also had one for themselves. This is a great idea as it allows you to see the night through your guests’ eyes and gives you lots of memories of the moment they thought were important. At the end of the night, we collected all the cameras and left them in the take away box for the couple to take home.

Portraits - I know we have all been to a wedding where there is a Photo Booth, however Portraits on White which is the company the couple had at their wedding is not a Photo Booth company. They create classy portraits of all your guest and print a picture for them and give them online access to the rest of the photos. This is a unique experience as they set up a small studio on site at your wedding and have a photographer that tells your guests how to pose to create beautiful images. This is interactive and gives your guests a special take away from your wedding day.

Design - I cannot say enough about the overall design and colours for this couple’s wedding day. The colours were bold and soft at the same time and were thoughtfully curated. The seating chart, welcome sign, guest book, invitations, and place names all carried similar features and themes from the colour pallet integrated perfectly.

The venue - Working with the Gardiner Museum’s events team was a pleasure to work with. They are responsive and collaborative. They made things for wedding planner’s so much easier! Throughout the evening as I had questions, they were able to answer them and assist me in anything I needed. Their approach is professional, helpful, and swift. Not to mention the space is in the heart of the city. With its breathtaking view and open balconies, it is a unique combination of indoor and outdoor space . If you are looking for a modern, unique and versatile space for your wedding day, I would highly recommend the Gardiner Museum.

It was a pleasure to be apart of Laynna and Kyle’s wedding day, and I wish them the very best in their new adventures as a married couple.
